Definition of subcritical extraction technology: solvent in the temperature interval higher than its boiling point but lower than the critical point, under a certain pressure to liquefy the state exists, we define as the solvent's subcritical state. In this state using its similar soluble physical properties, used as a biological component extraction solvent for subcritical extraction solvent, the extraction process is called subcritical extraction process.

The solvents suitable for extraction and desolvation at room temperature and lower temperatures are defined as low-temperature subcritical solvents, and at present there are five types of low-temperature subcritical solvents suitable for industrial production, namely, propane, butane, DME, R134a, and liquid ammonia.

Subcritical extraction technology is an innovative and universal processing technology platform. Summarized in one sentence, subcritical extraction process is a low-temperature, low-pressure, high-efficiency physical method.

The fatty acid composition of grape seed oil is reasonable, and it is an excellent functional edible oil. The extraction methods of grape seed oil include pressing, organic solvent extraction, supercritical extraction and sub-critical low temperature extraction. The oil yield of the pressing method is low, the impurity content is high, and the high temperature is formed in the extrusion process, which destroys the unsaturated fatty acids in the oil. In the process of organic solvent extraction, the unsaturated fatty acids in the oil are destroyed and the nutritional value of the oil is greatly reduced. Supercritical CO2 extraction technology is used to produce grapeseed oil. Although there is no solvent residue, the process has high operating pressure (25 ~ 30 MPa), small equipment scale, large investment, and high production cost, resulting in the cost of grapeseed oil cannot be recognized by the market.

Subcritical (the main solvent is butane, propane) extraction technology, is a new extraction technology in food processing industry, with low boiling point of solvent, gas under normal temperature and pressure, easy to volatilizing characteristics. Subcritical extraction of grape seed oil is to extract and separate grape seed oil from raw materials by using its characteristics.

Advantages of subcritical extraction technology

Compared with hexane and other conventional solvent extraction process, low-temperature subcritical extraction process has the following outstanding advantages:

1. the material in the heat-sensitive components of the damage is small, suitable for the extraction of plant components, herbal ingredients extraction;

2. the loss of volatile essential oils is small, the components of the whole, the taste is pure and suitable for the extraction of essential oils of plants;

3. energy saving, energy-saving solvent evaporation is less energy-consuming, the desolvation process does not have to make the material warming up;

4. with a certain degree of selective extraction advantages.

Compared with supercritical carbon dioxide extraction process, low-temperature subcritical extraction process has the advantages of high efficiency, low pressure, as well as the advantages of small investment, low production costs, large production scale.
